Antique Ornate Mirror

A large arched mirror with beautifully carved scrollwork. Believed to be once full Giltwork it has been brought back, revealing the warm reddish undercoat beneath, it gives the piece the kind of warmth, depth and history.

MEASUREMENTS Widest point 86cm, 160cm tall, frame thickness 6-10cm.

MATERIALS & COLOUR Carved solid wood frame, traditional gold leaf gilding faded & paint. Very Heavy piece. 

CONDITION In good vintage condition. Consitent ear to the gilt in places, showing the reddish undercoat and pale plaster beneath, especially on the raised carving. This kind of loss is typical of a genuinely old giltwood piece and reads as authentic age rather than damage. It has ancient bora on the back panels, which came well before the seller purchased from an antique dealer.
